On a local flea market I bought a box with old motorsports photos. One of them shows a buggy in a livery that resembles the one of Kenny Roberts' championship winning motorbike. A writing on the backside of the photo says: 'K.R. tyre testing Nevada 1979'. Is this the proof that Kenny Roberts was about to enter the desert racing scene back in 1979?.............. This is how the story could go if this was a photo of a real buggy :-) . Actually it's my first SRB, a Buggy Champ. I only buy vintage or ReRe RC's for two reasons: 1) I like the look of the car 2) I owned a car like this back in the days or would have liked to buy it but couldn't afford it at that time. I don't care about the value of the cars so I prefer a ReRe for an original one. For the Buggy Champ it's the first reason, I just like the scale looks of the chassis and the 70ies style body. When I got into RC racing in 1985 SRB's were already out of style, so I wasn't keen to get one at that time. There isn't anything special about this Buggy Champ. Acoms 2,4 GHZ remote, Hitec servo, stock-ESC and motor. I soldered a 7,2V hump pack of old 2000mAh Sanyo NiCd cells, about 10 years old but still alive. NiCd's rule!! Although I like the boxart livery I went for something new. I really dig the design of the motorcycles of a well known Japanese manufacturer which built Kenny Roberts' championship winning bikes so I tried to paint my car in a way it could have looked like if Kenny Robert was the driver. What you see here is the result ;-) .

Sensational photo: Is this really Roberts?

Very excellent and unique paint scheme. Looks like I'll have to 'up my game' for my next Buggy Champ. I love that you took the time to paint the letters on the rear tire too. Too bad Tamiya didn't provide the Sand Blaster Jr. fronts...
