This is a rare 1/9 scale F-14 Tomcat rc jet for twin ducted fan or twin turbine. Features working variable swing wings and wing spoilers as per the full sized cat'. Mine is going to be built with twin turbine power - but is some way off as I have other projects at the moment. It's a great model and is very scale - produced in the late 80's it's also a vintage kit that is no longer in production. I love this one!

Very nice!! I was an airframer in VF-101. This does indeed look like a very nice kit.

From the size and sounds of the details, would it be a Byron Originals kit then?

Oh, forgot to mention that it's made by Yellow Aircraft in the USA. There has been talk of a re-release but that has been going on since 2002 I think.

Is this the Yellow Aircraft kit? VERY nice!!

Oh what a thrill the F14 Tomcat is in real size - and the noise at take off!
I had the pleasure to meet the guys in Sardegna, Italy when they came over from the carrier to have some dog fights in the ACME (Air combat training range Europe) against our MIG 29 which we (German Airforce) had sort of inherited from the former East German Airforce. The guys have the skull on their tails which relates back to a special story of their wing commander in the vietnam war.
Those days where good times in the Airforce...
Thanks for stirring up those good memories of the late 80ies...

That looks so sweet! 1:9, that must be huge, how big is it? Also, scuse my ignorance, but what is the difference between turbine/ducted fan?
nogutsnoglory
Hi Metboy, It's around 2 mtrs in length and is pretty big! The Ducted fan is an impeller fan system driven by an ic glow engine. The turbine is a proper miniature jet engine burning kerosene and produces a fair amount more thrust than a DF. Modern Elecetric ducted fan systems are putting out some pretty huge thrust figures now though, due mainly to brushless motor development and ducted fan advances. Cheers!

That is some model my friend, send me some pics to [Mail me] when you start to build. Kind regards Troy Heli King

Thanks Troy, to be honest, it's gonna be a while as I am concentrating my efforts on the Bluebird project. As soon as I start the build though it will be updated here first! Cheers, Nigel
