** NOW DISASSEMBLED ** Non box-art Baldre.... PS23 Gun Metal backed with PS5 Black
*** NOW DISASSEMBLED - being used as spares for my DB01R @ www.TORCHracing.org.uk ***
*** UPDATE 24th May 2010 ***
Well after many months of being dumped in the project pending pile, the unofficial TC South meet @ TORCH on the 5th June gave me some enthusiasm to finish it off. As well as fitting electrics I also changed the rear wing (as someone mentioned the previous wing looked BIG) and fitted a front bumper made by T-Bone racing.
Yeah that's a 27mhz receiver  Tamiya TZ motor and a Nosram Hawk Power Reverse ESC
After a few battery packs I'll strip the chassis down and tighten the diffs - at the same time I will fit this Slipper Clutch
*** ORIGINAL ENTRY 3rd Sep 2009 ***
Since restoring lots of vintage Tamiya cars over the years I wanted a change so thought my next project should be a modern kit. After reading the DB01 Competition article - posted on Tamiya's USA website - I decided getting a Baldre. Although I’ve already got a Durga (which is still in its box), thought I’d get another kit as I was uncertain how well it would end up as I’ve only cut + painted one other polycarbonate shell and that was for my black Hotshot.
I’ve never liked the look of the Baldre with all its shiny decals and blue wheel flames, it just makes it look a bit rubbish so I guess it was a strange choice of car for me to buy. Although still no beauty think it looks much better without those horrible blue decals.
I did buy some TRF415 decals to finish it off.
And some black instead of the standard white wheels.
It makes me feel a bit queasy just looking at the box-art.
A TRF501X stabiliser set has been fitted front and rear.
For now I’ve installed the powerful 540 motor.......

Finally Nige you have posted something in your showroom .
Are these TRF ?.
I agree Boxart makes me feel a bit ill as well but you have really done this Buggy justice by doing it in this style

My bad I missed where you wrote you brought the TRF decals to finish it off
I see you did not put the lame decals on the rims they look pretty fake on the Boxart Baldres.
Not a bad looking Buggy all up.

Looks very well indeed mate, nice touch with the TRF decals

Now this is how Tamiya should have done it
Man those guys at tamiya need to get someone like you dude to do some proper art work. Just the red windows not sure? But apart from this, wonderful. Thank you.

Hi davidr2007 - the one thing I still don't like on the car is the red windows. I would have preferred them clear/black, but with my limited polycarbonate painting I took the easy option. The Baldre comes with two separate decals sheets; the horrible blue shiny ones, and some mildly bearable ones which include the red windows. I guess I could have used the window decals as a mask, but was really unsure how to make a good looking edge around the window in black. I know some people use a black paint pen for this, but wasn't sure what this would look like when I did it. The Baldre shells are relatively cheap, so maybe I could give it a go in the future.

Cheers for the comments guys; will let you know when I get around to painting another bodyshell for it, I hope next time with clear windows

*UPDATE* just changed the wheel nuts to Tamiya's Ltd Edition black ones (why are they Ltd Ed, I haven't a clue?!?). Think it now looks much better the wheels are completely black

Looking good. Except for the blue flames on the wheels, I don't mind the box art. But yours looks even nicer. The spoiler looks clownishly large though.
super gripper
You have seen my Baldre body shells, there is another on the way. The red window stickers - make perfect paint masks. Just stick them on the inside before you spray...........then peel them off when your done..........easy !
WW-nut
Cheers super gripper; only after the shell had been painted did I have the same idea, doh! Now where are all those cheap Baldre shells from Hong Kong gone and I'll give it a go?
super gripper
You are local to me, if you want a Baldre shell painting up with one of my designs and sticker sets let me know.
