Nitro thunder bought a few years back from ebay for around £80 IIRC.

Brought it out of retirement (as you can see, not the cleanest!) and bought new fuel and about to try and get it going again.

However the pull start snapped and that put an end to that!

so now looking to remove the pull start (asume its the 4 hex bolts and the engine will simply pull away giving access?) and seeing if it can be repaired.

No idea what pull start is needed (even if they are available) but once all sorted and running as it should will probably strip and rebuild and give it a clean.

Its not the cleanest one around (the bost is missing a chunk and the wing is there y luck only!) but hey, its never going to be a shelf queen and they are made to RUN!

yep those 4 hex bolt you need to unscrew, and for the pull start, try to fix in a small rope, and if you try to start her up, never pull it out to the end, thats why it snapped, small rapide pulls (about 3/4inches out) would be enough to get it started. goodl uck and they are a blast to drive....if you like nitro cars

i find it easier to undo the engine from underneath ,the pull starts are repairable but the time it takes (the fiddley spring)you would be better off getting a new one.they are available at most good model shops.remember to check mesh on refit.

thanks all.

Is there any universal type pull start that can be used? ie any suitable for a .15 engine?

hopefully would like to get some bigger wheels with sand/grasss tyres and run it wherever i can, the on-roads are not tested on grass and doubt much good on anything but the hardest of sand.

FAO Transam402 : How can it be removed from underneath?

removed the screws (well 3 of 4) and cant see how? is the metal floor plate just held on with the 4 screws and the engine mount connected to that?

i am very sorry for what i said for engine removal, it has been a while since i used mine and have just got it out to check and you are correct on removal with the screws you have circled in the pics.

You have to undo those 4 mounting screws. An absolute pain to remove. There are plenty of pull start to get and they are cheap. Also look at getting the roto start. Also not that expensive and much easier to use than the pull start. Look at the tyres and wheels of the Nitro Chrusher, same chassis so will fit straight on and will give some grip on grass and more ground clearence. Enjoy it they are fun.
