The Snap-On Buggy Champ 2009.

This kit was bought from my friend and TC member ( Ian ) Hobbymaster.

I am a great fan of all the SRB’s as well as the Super Champ and when this re-release was announced I like many others had to have one. It was great to see the old style packaging and Box Art again, roll on all the others !!!!!!

This one was built to be used in the Tamiya101.com DVD’s. There are many superb examples Box Art and Custom on TC now, which is great to see.

I had some decals left over from the Custom Snap-On Scorcher I built last year, so they were used on this Buggy Champ as well as all the alloy goodies I make for Awesome Alloys.

I didn’t have time to go mad like I did with the Snap-On Scorcher as filming was coming up and I wanted to get this built in time.

The chassis was built up as per instructions. I also added a Sport Tuned Motor, Awesome Alloys SRB Competition Alloy Chassis for rigidity, Alloy Gearbox Skid Plate, Alloy Gear and Motor Cover set and of course Awesome Alloys Box Art alloys.

Everything went together well and I just loved building an SRB without restoring everything first.

I also added a Nitro bottle with detailing to the Gearbox and a spare wheel to the rear, alos Awesome Alloys covered. The spare wheel had a strap and 2 pads fitted.

The body was Halfords primered and then sprayed Tamiya TS Bright White. This was left to dry for a week and then the red areas were masked and sprayed Tamiya Bright Red.

The decals came next and were a mixture from the Buggy Champ decal sheet and Lee’s fantastic Decals from TC. I also added my own Rad22Rad decals and the 22’s to finish it off. All this was clear coated and polished down to a good wet shine.

The Driver was next and I tried some masking and spraying on the helmet and hand painted the face and body.

This was all built up and some final details added like the matt yellow lettering on the tyres. I must at this point say that I am not happy with the lettering removal on the front tyres. But that’s my only complaint with this otherwise FANTASTIC kit.

The Snap-On Buggy Champ was used and run hard in the sand dunes. Hopefully Zakspeed will let me use a great picture he took showing this Buggy Champ in flight.

I hope like this version of the Buggy Champ.

Cheers
Rad

I would also like to thank TC Member Dino F for the fantastic pictures.

Greatmate, you certainly must have 'Balls' the size of beach balls for having the nerve to run such a highly detailed and superbly finished vehicle such as this??!! I for one, can't wait to see it in action when the DVD comes out. Yet another OutStanding build Rad, truely worthy to carry that 22 number board.
