Copying/measuring parts
Originally, the plan was to make new gearbox plates and Rich was going to dremel the necessary clearance pits on the inside faces
Having tried, for at least five minutes, to get my head around how to redraw such a complex (read €˜hard to copy') shape I suggested that the plate only needed to brace the diff area, so why not go for a simple clamp €“ That's what we went for (big phew)
First off, I photocopied the gearbox plates (kindly lent by Skinner2)
You can see below, the hole pattern is a relatively simple triangle, with a central hole
A few lines thru the large central hole (by eye) gave me the centre.
The great thing about copying like this is that no matter how much you zoom a photo, the angle measurements never change, so you can zoom it to a manageable size, then use a protractor to clock the angles.
At the same time, measurements were taken off the gearbox plate itself, for the pitch of the holes, which resulted in
Then, the centre hole
The angle was determined by clocking thru the intersecting lines in the first pic, then measuring the pitch on the piece itself
After that, it was a bit of prettying up.
And checking the fit
Now for the real tech bit LOL
The notch for the output shaft €˜bearing' needed clocking.
I guessed it roughly, then made several different models, with the notch moved round 1 degree each time
Now for the dead scientific bit;
Offered the plate up to my monitor to check the notch :D
And a quick bit of 3D playing to make it look presentable

Thanks for the tech Andy, and have a great 2010.

Cheers Henk, Happy 2010

No spares made yet, was waiting to see if they fit/work

Hey Andy thanks for adding this - A big help really. I might see if I can convince my machinist friend to do something similar with your design. Cheers

Cheers Andy, you know I like to give you a challenge
, They fit pefectly and should stop the bending, just need to address the other issues with the truck now
