The mysterious M04-S chassis - step 1
Following the re-release of the Alpine A110 bodyset (and Abarth and S800) I wanted a cheap chassis to run it.
As I could not live with using FWD on it and M02's are still expensive to buy I started a mod on the cheap and easily available M04.
Only problem it will not fit the 210mm wheelbase of the old M02.
So here we go with my version of the M04-S ;) Or M04-S-R for the motor position in old Tamiya money, as it's rear engined like the original.
I just realised that I can even use the M03 Mini anti roll bars, might be needed...
Comments welcome and template available for the aluminium pieces as they are complicated to make.
Cheers.

Great thinking -- Adding to my favs for sure

Ooh I like that position of the motor! Now for some oil shocks I guess? And running it hard
Tizer
Haha, I'm building exactly the same at the moment How does it run?
Chain Driven
@originalreclamebord, yes mate, oil shocks this weekend and then ready to see how it handles !
@Tizer, don't know yet but I'll know soon
Origineelreclamebord
If this handles nicely I think I'm gonna sell one of my M02's and swap it for a chassis like this
def4x4
Looks very nice and a great mod! Are those chassis tyle,s both from a M04-S chassis!
steve3smart
nice work, well done.

@def4x4, everything is from an M04, only the aluminium plates are home made.

I like that a lot - very neat idea! I've made short chassis centres before from Aluminium but then have nowhere to put the battery. Your method is so much better. I guess you've have to retime any hot motors you choose to run, as they'll be going backwards?
mini_mad_matt&son
Very nice - top job

@Mad Ax: yes I'm going to use the M-Special motor from Tamiya, it's a strange motor but very well suited for the rear wheel drive M cars. See last pics.

Very nice mod! Jerome.

Thanks guys !

Good work, there's also an excellent guide on [Click here] about doing the same using all Tamiya components. No fabrication needed.

Nice but the difference between our modifications is that mine gets the motor at the back like the real Alpine which is what I wanted.
Origineelreclamebord
Have you had time yet to test it? I am really keen to know what it's like to drive
Chain Driven
I'm going to post a new entry on TC with the result. But so far I can say that it has outstanding rear end grip and traction and a little understeer but I have read stuff and have a few tricks for that issue. I'll be back

This looks so good, I really want to build one, a great project, nice one!

Why to use a M04, which was developed for Medium and large wheelbase when you could use the M03 or even the M05. I have few Abarths with M03 and M05.
Chain Driven
Because the Alpine was RWD and rear engined...
