Hello,
I'm not very proud of this one, but I thought I had to show it, just to document.
Well, chassis has already been shown, it's my ABC Hobby Genetic. As for the shell, I was looking for a nice Golf Mk1 shell that I could fit on an M-sized chassis. I love the Nikko one shown in my showroom (link at the bottom), but it's just too small. The Kamtec one is apparently too small too, and not very nice IMO. Then I spotted one made by M-factory. Unpainted it looked cool, but some buddies ordered it and once painted, well, it wasn't very nice; bad proportions, lack of details...
Finally, I saw the one made by Team Bluegroove, and on their ebay ad, the model seemed really nice. The text said it was fitted on an M05, and was a repro of the Tamiya model. I was a little puzzled, because I thought the Tamiya Kamei golf chassis was a different size than M-chassis, but since I don't own this chassis, I bought the shell anyway.
Well, the result can be seen below. I had to widen the tracks of my chassis by 5mm both front and rear to make it look acceptable, and also had to lengthen the wheelbase by almost 5mm too to fit the shell.
It's not that ugly, but still, I'm quite disappointed; no decals (I had to dig my old decal sheets for front and rear lights), strange proportions (the nose is too thin and long), poor moulding (the VW logo was such a joke I cut it and replaced it by one from a Blitzer Beetle) and very fragile lexan.

That's why I say it loud here: Will a proper Bodyshell manufacturer give us a nice Golf Mk1 someday? I would be so happy, and in the meantime, think I'm going to switch this bodyshell for a nice Levin from ABC!

Well, at least you have a basher shell now. I want to build one too, bought a Kamtech so long ago that I can't remember.

My Mom's was a silver grey GL, and my father had the GTI painted in the ugliest green I have ever seen, but these were very cool cars! Thanks for the compliment.

You can order two version from team bluegroove. One like yours and another one with space for the ABS parts to attach, just like the original Tamiya Golf Ml.1 shell. To me, your shell looks OK only the front could have more detail. I like the idea of using a VW badge from a blitzer beetle. You did a good job all in all.

I see what you mean. Really a pity, because the thumbnail on the front page looked so nice... And I think you did everything you could to make it look as good as you can make this body...

I really like it, reminds me of my old Mk1 Golf Driver (it was metallic gold LOL). Out of all the cars I've owned it's my favourite. Nice work

Not bad, that build for a body like that!
You did your best on this car, and it looks great! Have some action fun with it.

The trouble is, you see, is that you are used to the fantastic Tamiya shells! Mind you I think this looks very nice, well done, you have done an excellent job of it.

I think you have made a really good job of that, even though the shell proportions are not quite right. I love these cars, and a few years ago had one of the last Mk1 GTi Campaign editions - really, really regret parting with that :-/. So basic in so many ways compared to modern cars, and yet just so fantastic to drive, really chuckable and well built. Have you tried approaching the guy on the club that makes the excellent Mk1/2 Ford Escorts and Opel Kadett's about Mk1 golf shell? His shells are very scale, have proper undercuts and very nice detail. A Mk1 Golf shell would be a sure - fire seller, due to its popularity imho.

You did the very best job possible on that body, just a, maybe scratch built, front bumper would make it look more scale like, - and some licence plates, especially on the rear !?
That wheels look ace !

That's funny, seems like a few of you guys had a 1:1 back in the days. Wish I had one too.
@Olli: Your ideas are good, but I don't think I'll bother spending more time on this shell than I already did, it just doesn't deserves it.

Excellent work, I did a Kamtech Golf 3 years ago and it was nowhere near as nice. We can only hope that retroracing/hpi/abc will bring out a proper mk 1 Golf, and maybe it's nemesis the 205 GTI while they're at it

Thanks for the props on my Build, I'll put some info on the intro about the paint process etc.
Can I ask where this body is from, my real car is a MK1 Caddy, I want a MK1 golf 1/10th body to convert to a caddy body, should be easy, right? lol
