I had to do it...and so here it goes....chassis all done with the FP-4L just like they recommended in 1982. Built with the optional shocks (which didn't do a thing except for looks) and powered by a new working 6V battery! Broke-in the gearcase with Tamiya spray oil and have taken the body parts off their sprues in preparation for the auto body....will follow up with more pics....

1 1 1 1 1 3 coats of FINE primer and 2 coats of Bright Red 1 1 or 2 more 'mist' coats before laying 'wet' coat 1 Monroe shocks 1 bottom 1 top 1 rear left angle

You only live once. Although I should live by my own words and break into some of my NIB's.
This Toyota is in my opinion the coolest old school 4x4's.

Wow, This is incredible. With your paint skillz this thing is going to be a work of art. Box Art I'm sure!! I'm so excited about this one I'm about to pee my pants Keep this one on the shelf! Well maybe a trial run across the carpet. But that's it!

respect! I will do the same with my NIB and built it.
Thats why Tamiya made them...

Very cool - are there any more pictures of the build process?

Unless you have the NIB as an investment ( doubtful as Tamiya is re-re most of the oldest), I think that in one point all the NIBs should be built. Well done for you!

I have two of these Hiluxes. Had 3 at one time and they are fantastic. Well done you for building this. I could probably not resist the temptation and would have done exactly the same.

I to think there is nothing wrong with building these old vintage kits. And they look so much sweeter on the shelf than they do in an old dusty box. I did it to a mountaineer with no regrets Yes d-spec can we see more pics. you got room for six more.

Yes my Tamiya brothers, it had to be done; just to see what it might have felt like in 1982...and yes, it was as exciting as anything I've ever built/done in r/c cause I'm poppin' its cherry all at the same time as well We should all be doing this if you feel like you're never gonna sell it or think you'll retire from its worth, cause it just isn't gonna happen...so lets enjoy it for what it is right? Everything I acquire, I build......Hope you'all enjoy! Just posted an update.....

Cool, if I could afford one I'd build it too, and then go run it like it was 1982 all over, you're very right they are only toys and meant to be enjoyed while we can

Takes me back almost 30 years to when I built one ! Good on yer, Mr Tamiya didn't produce these kits to stay in the boxes. Build and enjoy

I agree with building the NIB's. A buddy of mine had this car back in 1983, and I was jealous. So complex! The only prob with building NIB's is that at some point there won't be any vintage NIB's to be built! Wonder if we will ever see the day...

Nice one fella, well done. I have two of these that are in super condition & not if I get one but when I get one I will build & put on the shelf because look far better on the shelf than a box of bits. If you lose money 'Who cares' if you live to 100 years you have only been on the planet 100 summers so it's a short life. Enjoy!
