A 'Fast-Attackerang' - or a 'Wingerang' ?
NOT FOR SALE
Whilst browsing the 'bay, I spotted a quirky-looking Boomerang - with a completely different look about it...
I love the Boomerang bodyshell shape - even more so after getting a Terra Scorcher that was wearing one last year !
The advert said it was well-used but in good conditon, that there was another bodyshell that could be used - and also that there were 8 extra wheels/tyres and some spares in the box that the other body was sitting on...
The model had receiver and servos installed - and there was a transmitter included.
'Quirky' ?
This Boomerang had to me that certain something... it was painted in a camouflage colour scheme !
'Now that's different', I thought... a 'Fast Attackerang'. :D
Also different was the bodyshell which was sat on the shoebox in the background - I'd never seen one like it.
Sort of Boomerang shaped - but with a forward 'cockpit'... and with odd vertical 'strakes' behind...
Well - I won the auction, and sent a link to Mark ( sgt.barnes ) to show what I'd got.
He rang me, and asked if I knew why the price had got so high.
I did not think £67 was a lot for a buggy with radio, some spare wheels, and an extra bodyshell.
He then asked if I'd seen the bodyshell on that shoebox in the advert photo.
'Yes - I've seen it - but I don't know what it is'.
'It's a Winger - they are very rare' he said. I had no idea...
The parcel arrived - and it was a big one !
The model is very much a 'bitsa'...
I know the Boomerang is a development of the old Hotshot ( I had a Hotshot in 1985 and sold it because it always bump-steered ) but this Boomerang has the front of a Hotshot on it.
Gearbox, front suspension arms, red uprights etc. The rear end is standard - and a Hotshot H.P. Suspension Set is fitted - minus the carbon rear suspenion part.
The camouflaged Hotshot wheels have Shumacher C.A.T. tyres fitted - and the very strong front bumper is a home made one ( or possibly an aftermarket item ? * ) - from 2.5mm thick styrene.
( * I've no idea ! ;) )
A 'proper' Boomerang front bumper was in the shoebox - along with one off a Quick Drive Boomerang...
( Anyone need one of those ? )
There is one broken part - the right rear bumper - as in the photo.
Anyone have a spare one that I could cadge ?
The Winger bodyshell...?
That's not in too bad condition - considering... but it is white - and there are none of the 'proper' decals.
The two holes at the rear - where the body clips hold it - are torn.
The previous owner has stuck acetate squares in place - which are very strong...
I plan to restore the chassis - to 'excellent runner' condition - it's flithy.
I shall start by stripping the model down into small pieces - and cleaning each of them in turn...
I think I'll get a re-release Boomerang body for it - for show - I've some spare white Hotshot wheels and tyres.
The Winger body ?
I could do the brake-fluid-bath thing - and 'restore' the body - and paint it silver...
Anyone got a scanned copy of the original Winger decals - so I can have some made for it ?
Alternatively, with good photos of a model with a Winger bodyshell - I could draw my own reproduction decals for it...

Hi I saw this one as well on the bay. Yeap very unusual body clour scheme choice! These are great cars!
I have also just finished cleaning up my friends Boomerang, last used at least 12 years ago... and not a rusty screw in sight!! The benefits of a good storage place! He even has the boxes for the original Tamiya ball race bearings with the Beatties price still on them, looks like they were bought yesterday!!
Cheers

Wow, that sure is interesting all the way around. I think that front bumper might be a JG aftermarket part as they favored large bumpers with mild bends and no decoration made from Kydex type plastic. Two springs per shock, were they trying to jump BMX style jumps or what???

Steve,
No rust on this either - just grubby.
It pays to keep models in the house where it's warm and dry...
Chris,
I can pick the thing up holding only that bumper - with a battery fitted - and hold it horizontally - !
My guess is that you're likely right about that as yours was a perfect description - thanks.
Mild bends and no decoration is just right.

I am busy 'drawing' some decals for it...
Done the way I 'drew' the decals for the Matchbox 4x4x4 Monster Beetle.
