Sand Scorcher 2010
G'day guys, finally finished my re re SS.
I wanted this to look like the SS used in the Australian movie 'Malcom' I still need to make the bracket on top to carry the milk bottles though lol.
I shortened the chassis 5mm to get the wheelbase correct as Mr Tamiya got it wrong. This took about 10 minutes. Clamped a peice of alloy to the front of the chassis plate, drilled the holes into the alloy so as to make a template, then slide it down towards the rea 5mm, using the alloy template, redrill the holes for the front mount, front beam & bumper. Then the rear body clip, just redrill the holes 5mm back from the original as the body & whole front end is sliding back. Done.
I also had the wheels, exhaust & windscreen wipers chrome plated. Just for some old school bling.
The dampers are useless, mine are leaking oil just sitting on the shelf! i will put some aftermarket items on later.
The other day I was training on my local Cross country track when I found a little pump track that the younger guys had built. As soon as I was jumping over the first doubles I thought, 'this is perfect for the Sand Scorcher' so I will take it there this weekend for it's first flogging.
Action pics to follow.
regards
Jak

Nice looking scorcher. But I got a feeling it wont stay that way long. And I'm sure that the action shots will look fantastic, as yours alway's do. Nice work.
Connor
Very nice, the wheels & stinger look ace & you have a nice finish on the paintwork! Great decal placement, looks almost too nice to run, but I know that you're more daring than me, lol!

Surely not a flogging. Be gentle. I remember that movie from around '86. Nice inspiration.

Looks great! The wheelbase looks perfect now, thanks for the tip! We should have a CC Scorcher meet one day!

I didn't know that there are so many errors in the re-re SS-kit: wrong rear cage, leaking 'revised' dampers, wrong wheelbase and ofcourse...the wrong bodyshell. Will they never learn? LOL
Davecul
Looking good Jak, great colour scheme. Love the look of the surface on that course as well, should be a blast!
ChrisHix
Excellent work, and fast too! I agree about the wheelbase. Where did you go for chroming?

Bigwheels_inc
Fit the shocks upside down that way the oil doesnt drain
mr.retreader

Jak, what battery, ESC and motor are you running..? Just been told lipo's don't fit..
Jak Rizzo
My 5000 lipo saddle pack fits easily. Standard esc & motor. it balloons the rear tyres easily so should be more than enough poke
SRB Bloke
That sounds good, how long do you get out of a charge? could you take a pic and send it to me. Just so I understand how it fits..
Jak Rizzo
With a 4200 lipo saddle pack in my other SS's I get 40 minutes & thats with a sport tuned.
