Well what a great day for painting (apart from all the contaminates in the atmosphere). Here is my freshly painted S.R.S. (Street Racing Scorcher). I opted for water based paints this time round as I find I get a better result when lacquering & no time needed to sand down any paint layers. I have used offical VW/Audi colours, the main body colour is the brightest VW/Audi white I could find (Brilliantweiss) & the red is VW/Audi (Misanorot). These 2 colours go together like pie & peas, since painting this I cannot stop staring at it (my girlfriend thinks there's something wrong with me). I went through all the usual steps when spraying but added an extra heavy coat of lacquer as I intend to give this shell a good polish when cured. The racing stripes on the side above the running boards were spray-painted on, I measured these up & cut them from the edges of decal sheets I have & they worked a treat. I got the idea for the racing theme from the recent sports range of ST Fords & Mustangs. I have some modern decals to apply & want to apply the name of the vehicle on the last part of the bottom red stripe, just need to find some white lettering decals that fit. I have custom California number plates coming from America. The wheels will be modified as well & I have now sanded the Alu rear cage, just need to replace the black plastic stock part. I am glad I left the running boards on & sanded the trim line above the door handle, you don't know till you try these things I guess...

I've just corrected it l actually, the red used is 'Misanrot' not 'Marsrot' as originally stated, they were produced around the same yeat up to about 1997 I think. 'Marsrot' is more orangey & 'Misanorot' is a brighter red!

champion that pal..chuffin lovely
whats the make of the 'varnish' you use and how long does it take to cure

I am a Smart repairer by trade so the lacquer I currently use for the waterbased paints is fast curing for this process, it takes about 45mins to cure in winter, 30mins in summer due to the warmer weather. I usually do the above & leave in a warm place at home overnight. The name is ChipsAway Aquaclear lacquer for smart repairs, it has to be fast curing & as a bonus allows me to get my models painted quick
