Real Baja Project / runner
Hi All,
One of my nostalgic favourites & with all the new & old Scorcher builds & projects going on on here lately, I've got the 'Bug' again to move on with my Baja project. I wanted a runner & has been the intention to do it as cheap as possible. I had an SRB chassis & a Monster beetle shell but had a few ideas for modifications to make it look more real. So far I've been modifying the body & have cut away & adapted with styrene sheets to create the 'typical' rear end & will probably cut away the running boards & alter the arches too. I intend to try & add an engine in there too. For the rest I plan to use parts I already have including coil shocks, Rough Rider rims with Blaster tyres & am using the real car pic as reference. I'll likely go with the colour too & then just see how it progresses. Probably slowly as I don't get enough time as I would like to play with these.

Nice work! Same back end as i did on my Baja Racer in my Showroom, i really need to dig that body out and revamp it. What are your plans for the arches?

I love it, I'm in the middle of something very similar, but you'll all be finished long before me.... I get about 1 hour a week to spend on my SS. Good job,,, lets see more

Thanks Guys, Volksrod I've just checked your showroom out - Wow!!! Awesome work there!! That back end REALLY looks real! In some ways I'm glad I hadn't seen that before or I'd probably not have bothered - can't match that!
With the arches - I was looking to follow the curves of the real baja pic I posted, trim the bottom of the rears off a bit, but who knows, I think of more I could do or change everytime I look at it. But this started with the intention of just a quick job to become a tidy runner!

Slimmy, Rads Snap-on is very very cool & was inspirational in this. That got me thinking of some sort of interior & inner arches. I've gotta stick to the plan though otherwise it'll still be sitting on the workbench this time next year - and that would be a shame!

I love this custom work. Are there any updates on this awesome VW bug? Would love to have a look at this one finished!

Hi Erich, Hope you're well.
I did get a little further with it but still lots to do. I had made a few further details to the body & was working on a custom chassis for it but this still needs work. I've also been trying to source some front tyres but I'm having difficulty finding exactly what I want. I've been doing everything else lately except my RC cars. Although, I have recently just about finished my Blazer, just need to take some nice pics of that now, so will post very soon. Then I plan to get on with this one next month. I have some great plans for it just don't seem to have enough time lately! I'll try & post some pics of this soon also. Thanks friend.

Hi Mark, it will be great to see updates on this one. By the way, I do like the Rough Rider front wheels you have on this one. They look good on this VW bug. Or maybe you are thinking in thicker ones likes the ones in my VW? I found them on eBay a couple of years ago but I believe the seller still has more for sale.
Oh, your Blazer! You know I'm one of the many TCers excited about that one. One of the nicests custom driver works I've seen. Hope you share pictures of that one soon.
Have a great Thursday, Mark!
