Just another quick update. I started to do some weathering but have a lot left to do. I applied some rust to steel areas of the body and just sanded through the paint on fiberglass sections. Various use of pastels, paint washes, real rust, and many coats of lusterless flat clearcoat. I like to play with weathering because its hard to mess up because you can always just do more lol!

Loving the rough and ready look. Coming together no Wyoming. Detailing a beat up car is harder to do well in my opinion. Great work.
TA-Mark
I'm speechless. Amazing work Seth. Looks so real. Not what you expect from a new kit.
Wyoming
Lol, thanks guys. Yeah maybe it'll be a shelf queen since it is still new and unused technically... nah I'm kidding I'll run it but I have to be careful not to scratch it

pagedm_f350
hahahah, the words Seth and shelf queen should never be taken seriously in the same sentence
looking awesome
neobrunox

What a wreck - are you going to restore it? <br
Just kidding, looks ace
SRB Bloke
The time you find for these projects is amazing, your detailing is excellent.. great work.... again....
Challenger-RT
This will be a masterpiece! I've already done it to my personal favs
Davecul
Don't these things come with an anti-perforation warranty?
Looking good, but if you don't make it an Apocalypse bug, then where will 'Viking Head' driver go?! Someone needs to do a Volvo XC90 Shell, then you could put him in that
Wyoming
Thanks guys, Oh the Viking guy will stay no matter what I end up doing to it lol!
slimmy
Nice work seth. I love the rust down in the corners of the running boards
Right were it would attack first
maybie in the area were the fender meets the body as well. OK, I am getting into this to much now. I gotta get my head back on straight again. PS. your starting to rub off on me, seth!
generationx
This is SO cool!
TIMECMDR
Excellent stuff Seth, its coming along great, super detailing, looking forward to see the finished project.
swedishwiking
Incredibly cool effect, exactly like an old, abused racer found in a barn. Would be fun to make something similar based on the boxart SS and include some weathering effects and smashed windows. Wait, did I just think that or did I said it out loud?
delux
I'm liking where you're going with this! Be a bit careful fitting an engine to the back though. For it to be even close to the right position it would have to be right where the real motor sits. All the ones I've seen so far sit WAY too far out the back.. Loving the real rust! Where did you get it?
tuff bug
Thats looking fantastic I really like the fue filler you better stick a rag in their b4 the gas evaporates lol!
Tuffbug
Singleseven
Well that looks just awful!
Great job; thanks for sharing.
Badboy
Sweet! Get rid of the silverline on the green door and drill small holes in the line instead =)
Tyboart
I love looking at this project. Very cool!

Ebay:- New built, good runner, body may need attention.
Looking really really good, it takes a lot of effert to make them look this bad
CASE1
the rust through the body before the rear wheel is the best wheatering I have seen, great! Also like the primer same spot on the other side of the car, very realistic. Lots of research went in this car I see. And it shows!
tamiyaonebay
Master modeler you are.
7.2inchdriver
mmmm, they dont make a smiley face icon big enough here.
mr_pushrod
I really, really wish I had you patience to do a paintjob like that!
mcovalsk
Seth I don't think you should be care about running LOL, look like you did during several years now LOL.
I use to see weathered static models, mainly 1/35 scale military, however I know what difficult is to work on a large scale model to get e real used looking. Many of the modelers I know, very successful with 1/35 tanks have failed when worked in the 1/16 or even in 1/16. Summing up you did a great job working with the multilayer technique. Did you try with the salt technique?. I'm sending the link by PM.
pastimesteve
Looks like crap Seth! lol. Awesome work, once again. I've really enjoyed this build. You have a lot of talent.
steerfromtherear
Nice! Nice! Nice! very hard to do weathering well....And you have done an amazing job as usual. are you goin to put windows in it? If so, what about a bit of de-laminating on windscreen corners? Lol.
customrcman
well im lost for words!! that looks great
chewball
Are you going to be adding an engine? If so get some good photos. I have not figured out how to fit one of Dales engines yet.
Wyoming
wow guys thanks for the great comments and tips. @badboy I really love that trim idea, for the engine guys I wasn't able to fit Dales on this project but I do have a very thin lexan VW motor which fits under the rear hatch flush against the gearcase which isn't perfect but will look a little like an engine crammed under there. This project has been difficult because I knew really nothing about VWs prior to starting the build, but after having kind of a Bias towards them for some reason, I may actually look for a real Old beetle to tinker with at some point
Wyoming
Oh forgot the windows question, haven't decided which windows it will have, or old window nets etc. Those little details will take some time and more research on the net looking at beater bugs
Tamiyamandan
I think I saw this on Ebay Motors under Off Road Vehicles...LOL
7.2inchdriver
oh, man, one of the windows needs to have a garbage bag with tape on it!!! another idea you might try is to carve out the back on the engine dale sent you and mod up some flat exhaust from styrene tubing the come out he sides instead of using the vertical stinger. some ideas. [Click here] or this

Wyoming
Thanks guys, good ref pics C, thats a possibility, I think Dales engine might end up as a detail in the bed of an old pickup full of restoration parts lol!
def4x4
Looks cool, i love the weathering on your Beetle bug project. I really wanted to build on my Beetle project too, but i`m to busy to work on our showroom from our work. Now for two jears almost and not still finished jet!
Naxman
Awesome work as usual Seth! It can't be said enough...the weathering looks amazing, right down to the rust holes in the rear quarter! This is truly a work of art!
Toykid
Seth, this looks terrible, what a complete disaster of a car - but I guess that what you are going for right
Awesome as always.
Origineelreclamebord
Looking awesome man!
I just wish I had such patience and those painting and weathering skills, it's just amazing! :o
j-man
you know what? i am strangely aroused by this ...its giving me the horn...lol
Henk4Focus
So cool. I must save up and visit you to get some tips.
Wyoming
Thanks guys quite the compliments lol!
Toykid
Seth, maybe if you are not sure you want an Apocalypse Bug, maybe this can become a true Mexican Baja Bug. the kind that live & work in the villages in Baja, not race through them
scollins
Seth, you continue to impress, I commend you on the most excellent job getting this weathering to look real. Keep going..BTW if you have time give me a call out here in WI
Wyoming
Thanks guys, That is a great idea for the look James, not sure they have Vikings south of the border but I love the concept. Thanks Steve, I'll have to go find your number lol!
Scorchio
Looking really horrible! I love it!
