Saw this the other day on the way back from the plumbers merchants (im not a plumber, I just had to get some bits for the plumber).
I think its what you would call 'Rat Look' lol, as its looks pretty crappy, but I figured some might like it and take inspiration. Also been pointed out by a few members that it seems to have a Turbo on it, so could possibly shift a bit?.
Apologies for the pictures but as it was lashing down I was not getting out of my car LMAO!!!!!!!!!

Not quite sure what to make of that, its certaily not what you'd expect to see parked in the supermarket car park... But well spotted...!!!

@ SRB bloe, yes but if you see the supermarket it was parked in you might understand, 'Farmfoods' is a bit of a pikey store lol, in the similar vein of Lidl, iceland and Aldi, budget all the way!.

@Scorcher, yes i was wondering if that was a turbo or just some part of an old VW engine that i know nothing about

He spent all his money on the turbo kit. so know he has to go to the farmers market for a discount on food. We have all wasted money like this before. come on, you know its true

I would suspect it's a 'Super Beetle' (Jak Rizzo has one), which is your 'basic' Beetle with a Subaru Impreza turbo engine fitted. As I understand it it's not too difficult a conversion because the basic layout is the same (boxer 4). Perhaps the Rat look s so people are more surprised at the traffic lights

@ Davecul Could well be mate, I dont know tbh, as i said it was lashing down and i refused to be getting out of the car to take pics in the pikey carpark, oh what a snob i must be

I think it's fair to say I'd be very happy to shop only at Aldi, Iceland and Lidl ( and Netto ) if I could drive a car like that around...

Free road tax as well !

I think I would be happier in an MGB GT or Vintage Lotus Elan also with free road tax lol.

It looks like a aircooled VW engine is still in there given the twin carbs, alternator placement and what looks like tinware around the barrels). I have seen a Subaru engine in the back of a Type 3 VW (Variant) and apart from having to raise the top on the engine Bay by a couple of inches it fited like a glove , and went like a cut cat. There is no sign of any radiator anywhere either but then again there wmay well be one at the front. I just hope they have beefed up the gearbox as the original ones dont like torque at all.

Its a VW 2 litre Turbo engine from a type 2 camper/van, the last type 2 campers from brazil had these fitted but the std gearbox's where replaced with uprated versions both manuals & auto's,
you can still buy the engine's complete with turbo system, electronic ignition & fuel injection.
