XR311 2 (AFTER)
This was supposed to be a quick flip but as usual I got to adding some additional touches and there was a few problems along the way...
So first a full strip, clean, grease and new ball-races and modern electrics . It was a struggle to get some of it apart, was scared of breaking it. Eventually with gentle perseverance I managed it. Had to put re-re arms on the back with re-re torsion bars as the originals had snapped. Put a standard Acoms servo in, 101 ESC, left the original silver can in and also bought an original gear set so I could lower the ratio to obtain the slowest speed possible. Had to source some re-re tires as the originals were absolutely shot, had turned into a sort of gunky glue, I would normally keep items like that but they just were not worth it. So that was the chassis done...
Now my favourite bit... the body. Had a few bits missing but thankfully I had a box of XR311 body parts; lenses, light cages, drivers arm and finally the fire extinguisher for the cabin. Had to scratch build window wipers as couldnt source those. Drilled out body and housings so I could fit a custom LED kit, dull warm white LEDs for the front light pods obviously. Finally got it all glued together after carefully repainting the interior, including a smoke for the driver. Scratch made some mud-flaps, a spring loaded aerial, a wooden ammo box for the cabin and a little exhaust. Finally it was weathering time and window screen stenciling for the finishing touches.
Cant wait to run this as Ive wanted to drive one of these for a long time.

Very nice, a lot of details went into this. I am not very patient, when it comes to these details, but maybe I will learn some day. You definately made an awesome restoration here.
Re-Bugged
Have fun taking this for a run. Very nicely weathered just how it should be.
Fuijo
That looks utterly fantastic! Beautiful job on the weathering and details.

Very nice, I have an original that is languishing in a box in a very tatty state. The body is shot, but it has given me idea to do an armoured version. I found a picture and drawings for one on the net. I don't feel it is sacrilegious to add detail to these kits. I do like scale correct cars and your's is great.
Futureworks
That’s a proper piece of modelling you’ve done there, which is why I think it is by a million miles the best Tamiya XR311 I’ve ever seen. Great job!
FERRETTI
Lovely!
KEV THE REV

Big thank you to everyone for such nice encouraging comments.
@Klausen Its just time and you learn through error and you pick up techniques.
@Re-Bugged dirty s good.
@Fuigo Cheers
@Andy D I add scale details to most of my cars, I think you should start that project mate, also weathering enables you to get away with not having a perfect body with a perfect paint job.
@Futureworks Your too kind mate but thank you, have you seen my other XR311?
@FERRETTI Cheers
@KEV THE REV Thank you mate, dont know about professional but I'll take it.
Ferruz
Great execution, especially on the weathering. And those head lights... just spot on. Your incredible attention to details makes it a great honor for a model to be built by you
Dirt-540
@Ferruz Your most kind, thank you.
