The BMW M3 GTR V8 equipped race car enjoyed a fantasy 1 win race season in 2000. But BMW roared back in 2001, winning six of the eight races and taking the manufacturers' championship and the driver' crown for pilot Jorg Muller in Europe. It was an extraordinary feat considering Porches outnumbered BMWs four to one at most races. What BMW did was replace the M3 GTR's six-cylinder engine with a V-8, which spelled more low-end power.
To commemorate BMW's achievements, I found this GTR body to place on the TA02 RS 4WD Chassis kit and 9mm offset wheels. The BMW that looks like this model made its racing debut in the US on November 3, 2001 at the Daytona 3 Hour Grand Am Finale where it placed 15th in the GT Class and set the fastest lap. It later went on to compete in the 2002 24 Hours of Daytona, 2002 Grand Am 400 mile in California, and the Bathurst 24 Hour in 2003 where it failed to finish after suffering wheel damage.
The car was retired after Bathurst and placed into a private collection here in the US according to 'Young Timers Garage' listing.
