Blue Competition Entry - Blue Men

The only painted models I have in blue are Imprezas and a simple shot of those would be a little predictable and nothing new, so with my thinking cap on I came up with this idea. I made some notes planning what the shot would look like - what I wanted to include and what the guys would be doing.

I rigged up my lights, a black cloth backdrop and made a desk with the wood flooring panels that have appeared in many of my photos before. The two Imprezas and a selection of blue tools and paints created the work area scene. The 2007 Impreza chassis has a nice selection of blue alu Hop-ups which add to the theme nicely. Luckily I had a long sleeve plain black T-shirt already so with that on I posed in the three positions then blended the shots together in Photoshop. I wasn't about to paint myself blue so more editing was employed to create the Blue Man Group look.

The tricky part was spraying myself in the face with blue paint. Not something I wanted to do for real for obvious reasons! The solution is to snap a pic of the paint spray separately then superimpose it over the pic. I didn't want blue overspray on my carpet or backdrop, or to stink out the room with the smell so I used a deodorant can instead, then coloured the spray blue in Photoshop.
